An increasing number of tourists has considered the Crimean peninsula as their summer vacation. For example, in 2015, Crimea was visited by 4.6 million tourists, in 2016 - already 5.6 million, in 2017 - 5.4 million, in 2018 - 6.8 million, in 2019 - 7.4. million - a record of the post-Soviet period. This tourist destination has become a good alternative to a vacation in the Krasnodar Territory. Of course, people are affected by the desire to see it as a domestic tourist destination rather than abroad- as it was before, when the peninsula was a part of Ukraine. Crimean tourists are a special group of vacationers who prefer vacation in the Crimea without intermediaries, guides and mandatory programs. Moreover, there is no language barrier, and on the Internet there are lots of offers for rental housing in the private sector, hotels, health resorts to suit different tastes and budgets.

The resort of Balaklava. Crimea

So, where to rest in Crimea? Which resort suits your requirements in price, quality and availability of the infrastructure best? Next let’s describe the pros and cons of the various accommodation options on the peninsula.

Southern coast of the Crimea (SCC): Yalta, Livadia, Alupka, Gaspra, Foros, Alushta, etc.

Pros Cons

1. Part of the so-called "Big Yalta" - the main resort area of the Crimea stretched from Gurzuf to Foros.

2. The possibility to arrange independent excursions to the South Coast cities and towns, closely located to each other. Run trolleybuses, buses and taxis.

3. Suitable for lovers of mountainous terrain and beautiful scenery. There are many attractions nearby.

4. The largest selection of private and bus tours of the Crimea. Proximity to the Marble Cave.

5. The most developed tourist infrastructure.

6. A sufficient amount of entertainment for young people, there is a nightlife.

1. High prices, especially in Yalta. In the nearby villages of Alupka, Simeiz Koreiz, Miskhor and Gaspra prices are much lower.

2. No sandy beaches, only pebbles.

3. There is a lot of tourists in high season. Quieter in June and September.

West Coast of the Crimea (WCC) : Yevpatoriya, Saki, Sevastopol, Balaclava, Chernomorskoe and etc.

Pros Cons

1. There are long, sandy and pebbly beaches to choose from, the shallow waters, the warm sea water - all this makes an attractive holiday on WCC with young children.

2. The most affordable resort towns of Crimea.

3. The ability to combine business with pleasure - there are a lot of sanatoriums and health resorts. Especially worth visiting Saki, located on the shore of Lake Saki with its famous mud baths.

4. A large number of water parks and attractions for children, the most famous of them is called "Banana Republic" height of 21m.

5. Given the presence of ports - the possibility of renting a yacht or boat in the Crimea for boat trips.

1. The beaches are not as crowded as the South Coast, but in high season there are also a lot of people. The beaches in suburban have more seats, and are cleaner.

2. There is pretty sparse nature, around are the steppes and plains.

3. Resting here is more suitable for those who are located in one of the many resort and recreational facilities. There is little "wild" beaches.

4. Young people on the WCC will be bored.

5. Less choice of tours to the Crimea, and you need to go longer to the main attractions.

The sea in the Crimea

East coast of Crimea (ECC): Feodosia, Sudak, Kerch, Koktebel, Beregovoe, Primorskiy, Noviy Svet, etc.

Pros Cons

1. Great choice of sandy and pebble beaches with fine shell rocks.

2. The diverse landscape - low mountains, plains and steppes.

3. The mild climate, the summer heat is easier because of the breeze that blows in the afternoon from the sea, and in the evening from the forest.

4. Probably the most affordable prices on vacation in the Crimea.

5. You do not need to go far for impressions: there is a Dolphinarium in Koktebel, a house museum of Aivazovsky, Green, Voloshin, a dormant volcano "Karadag", the oldest factory of sparkling wines, as well as ancient temples and mosques.

1. Unfortunately, there is no off-peak season in the second half of September, it will be cool for a beach holiday.

2. In the largest city of ECC - Feodosia is too messy and crowded in high season.

3. Less-developed tourist infrastructure, compared with the SCC and WCC. There is nothing to do in the evening.

If you come to the Crimea by your car, you can have all travel services by yourself. All you need is a navigator and a guide to tourist spots. If you arrived by plane or arrived by train, then you will be faced with the question of how and where to choose the right transfer or car rental in Crimea, not to overpay, but at the same time, it is good to choose the price-quality rule in accordance with the rule.
