Gudauta is not just an Abkhazian resort town, but an administrative municipal center with its own governor. By republican standards, it is quite large; about 9,000 people live here permanently. New Athos, by the way, belongs to the Gudauta region. The area has its own microclimate, since the Gudauta Bay is small and the city is more exposed to sea winds, so the climate is cooler than, for example, in Pitsunda.
According to the hierarchy of republican tourism, Gudauta conditionally takes its honorary 4th place, immediately after Gagra, Pitsunda and Sukhum. But it also has its own "zest" - the city is well located in the middle of the Abkhazian coast, which gives it a sightseeing advantage, it is easier to get to popular tourist places.

Sights and history of Gudauta
It is generally accepted that the first settlement in these places was organized by fishermen and farmers in the Neolithic era. This is not surprising, because many freshwater rivers flow here - Mchyshta, Gudau, Kistrik and Adzlagara. Already in the XI-XIII centuries, many castles, fortresses and temples were built here.
In Soviet times, the Bambora Air Force Base was located to the west of the city.

- Many monuments and memorials - to the Great Patriotic War, the Patriotic War of Abkhazia (1992), to the pilots who died in 1943 and 1968;
